   Professor and Dean, School of Social Work, UNC-CH

Dr. Richman is Professor and Dean of the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Richman received his M.S.W. from the State University of New York at Albany and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Florida State University.

His research and scholarship have focused primarily on understanding the methodology and helping individuals, couples, and families develop and maintain the interpersonal and social processes that allow them to interface successfully with their ecological environment. He is currently working on the development, validation, and testing of two quantitative measures that have application and utility for practice: the School Success Profile and the Social Support Survey.

Dr. Richman's teaching areas for Ph.D. and MSW students are in social work theory and practice with individuals, couples, and families, as well as teaching courses that prepare doctoral students for university teaching roles. His research is focused in the areas of at-risk students, social support, and violence and trauma in childhood.

His professional interests include the School Success Profile for children at risk of school failure, social work practice with couples and families, and social support.
