Natasha Bowen, Ph.D.
Principal Investigator, ESSP
Assistant Professor, School of Social Work, UNC-CH
Natasha Bowen has been working with the SSP Project since 1996. She received her M.S.W. in 1996 and her Ph.D. in 1999 from the School of Social Work at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to working on the SSP project, she has conducted numerous studies for the North Carolina Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services.
Her research interests include mental health of children and adolescents, school social work, risk and protection, and developmental psychopathology. Natasha is currently responsible for the development of an elementary version of the SSP. The first phase of this project, which has just concluded, was conducted with funding from NIDA and in collaboration with Flying Bridge Technologies. Further testing of the prototype elementary SSP (ESSP) is expected to begin in the spring of 2003. She is especially interested in how SSP and ESSP profiles can be used by practitioners to guide effective interventions with at-risk youth, and in statistical analyses of SSP data that have direct practice implications. Natasha also continues to conduct research on the development of psychopathology among seriously emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in the state of North Carolina.
Natasha teaches research, human development, and health and mental health of children and adolescents at the School of Social Work.
